Former Giants RB Tiki Barber Coming Back to the NFL? Burress Too?

Reports indicate that former New York Giants running back Tiki Barber will submit the paperwork to come out of retirement and play again in the NFL. Barber likely wouldn’t be doing this if he didn’t have some nibbles from some teams, but it’s also a very strange move for the former Giants star.

Since leaving New York, Barber has been working as an analyst for NBC Sports and publicly called out his former quarterback Eli Manning who wound up winning the Super Bowl the year after he left.

Reports also indicate that the Giants will not retain Barber’s rights.

When Barber retired, he finished the 2006 season with 1,662 yards, the most ever by a running back in his final season. He will be 36 in April, and will likely have to take a “giant” pay-cut to play at the NFL level again. ESPN’s Adam Schefter speculates that the Denver Broncos could be an option for Tiki Barber.

Another former New York Giants player is also planning a comeback. Former New York receiver Plaxico Burress, the man who scored the game-winning touchdown in the Giants’ Super Bowl victory over New England will have served his 38 month jail sentence and commissioner Roger Goodell has already stated that Burress will be eligible whenever he decides to return.

Schefter also sounded off on Burress, saying a good place for him to come back to would be St. Louis with the Rams. The Rams are in dire need of a playmaker at receiver, and Burress has a good relationship with Rams head coach Steve Spagnuolo, and Josh McDaniels was the coach on the opposite sideline in that famous Super Bowl, widely regarded as one of the best of all time.
