NFL Draft Sleeper Prospect: Hawaii Running Back Alex Green

facebooktwitterreddit

Quick–name the running back who ran for 327 yards and three touchdowns in a single game. Obviously you can tell by the title that the player in question is none other than Alex Green. Coming from Hawaii, it’s clear that Green wasn’t the focus of attention for opposing defenses. Hawaii is known for being a prolific passing offense, and Green only saw a limited amount of repetitions.

He certainly made the most of his opportunities.

On 147 attempts this past season, Green ran for 1,199 yards and 18 touchdowns, averaging 8.2 yards per carry. Even in 2009, Green was able to average over five yards per carry on very limited carries, but over the last two seasons, he showed he can be a competent receiver as well.

For me personally, Green is one of my most underrated prospects in the draft, and after the Scouting Combine I fully believe he will be a top ten back in the draft. This guy has not been in the spotlight by any means, especially coming from a passing spread offense like Hawaii.

At 6’2″ 230 pounds (he will likely check into the Combine a bit smaller than that, I’ll predict 6’1″ and 220, or thereabouts), he is extremely imposing physically, and NFL Network draft analyst Mike Mayock raves about his productivity and the fact that he consistently stood out on tape.

Clearly, we at NFL Mocks are not alone in our love for the former Warrior running back.

This is a prospect who has great size, and surprising breakaway speed. Check his highlights out on YouTube. He is going to go to a zone blocking scheme and get in a running back-by-committee system, and he is going to succeed. If he can put it all together mentally, he could truly be one of the draft’s biggest steals.
