Travis Lewis-OLB- Oklahoma

6-2 232lbs Junior

Stats:

2008- 144 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, 4 INTs

2009- 108tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, 1 sacks, 1 INT

Pros:

Travis Lewis is the next big time defensive prospect out of Oklahoma.  He currently is our top rated linebacker and possesses a ton of ability.  Lewis put up gaudy numbers so far in his college career amassing a total of 252 tackles.  He is a very instinctive linebacker and can always be found near the ball.  He has excellent speed and is able to cover sideline to sideline.  While at Oklahoma he has been asked to learn and run many different blitz packages.  As a result of the defensive playbook he has become a dangerous blitzer and someone offensive coordinators have to account for at all times.

Cons:

Lewis is going to be undersized linebacker in the NFL.  His smallish build and questionable strength are going to make it difficult for Lewis to take on blockers at the next level.  He needs to improve his technique when attacking the run.  He needs to be able to take on blockers and shed them quickly in order to make the play.

Thoughts:

Lewis’s overall athleticism and football smarts should help him overcome his limited stature.  Teams are going to really focus on his blitzing ability which may make him a good candidate for a 3-4 linebacker.  Lewis made a smart decision to return to school for his Junior year.  The extra year should allow him time to hit the weight room and bulk up.  He currently sits at #13 on our 2011 NFL Draft Big Board.

Projected Round:

Lewis is our top linebacker as of right now and the fact that he has the potential to be a good 3-4 rushing linebacker only enhances his stock.  As it stands he should be off the board within the top 15 picks.
