The Philadelphia Eagles will be fielding a lot of phone calls over the next few months relating to their quarterbacks. Philadelphia currently has Donovan McNabb, Michael Vick, and Kevin Kolb on the roster at that position. Teams have been making calls to the Eagles showing interest in all three players.
Michael Vick has been linked to the Buffalo Bills and St. Louis Rams, but the latest rumors have Donovan McNabb as the focal point. According to Philly.com, the Cleveland Browns have reached out to the Eagles to express interest in the teams starting quarterback and Kolb.
The link between the Eagles and Browns is a strong one. Cleveland’s new general manager Tom Heckart served under the same position for the Eagles. Brown’s team president Mike Holmgren was also the mentor of current Eagles head coach, Andy Reid.
While any trade for one of the Eagles quarterbacks is a long way from happening, there is a lot of interest and at least half a dozen teams have been in contact with the organization.
ESPN’s Sal Paolantonio reported that three teams – Cleveland, Denver and Buffalo – have had the most conversation with Philadelphia about McNabb’s services.

McNabb is going nowhere! He’s the best QB Philly has ever seen and the Eagles need him! So what he had a couple bad games as the worst time possible. The fact remains that he is and will be the team leader. I can’t stand it when my fellow Eagles fans rip this guy! He is OUR guy and he WILL brink us a Super bowl so shut your cheese steak hole and find something else to bitch about!!!
Trade McNabb, he misses way too many open receivers, even on short passes. His threat was running, he can’t or won’t do that anymore.
McNabb for the Browns 1st round pick would be great for both teams. It would make the Browns contenders for at least the next few years, and it would allow the Eagles a top 7 pick to reinforce their defense. I’ve been an Eagles fan since 1990, and I can tell you that McNabb is a GOOD quarterback, but Philly could use the draft choice, because at this point in time they have bigger fish to fry than quarterback. Kolb will surprise everyone… as long as the defense is solid like it was in 2003-2004 when guys like AJ Feeley, and Jeff Garcia could win in McNabbs absence, then Kolb can too.
I truly believe that McNabb is the best QB for an extended period of time. I say “for an extended period of time” because Norm VanBrocklin was definitely the best when he took the Eagles to the NFL championship and beat the Packers in 1960.
That being said, I would trade Donovan now, when he has some value. He is over the hill and as Odojoe says, he misses too many open receivers.
As a Browns fan, I don’t want McNabb.
A team trying to rebuild doesn’t need a quarterback in the twilight of his career. I hope that McNabb retires an Eagle, as it should be.
As for my Browns, they have FAILED Brady Quinn. He has no talent around him to give Holmgren or anyone an accurate gauge of the kind of player he can be. I’d like to find out while he’s a Brown and not while he’s a Bronco, Chief or Panther.
The Browns haven’t developed a QB in at least 25 years, maybe it would be a good idea to do that now rather than taking a risky draft pick on a Bradford or McCoy.
As a Browns fan I say no way to McNabb. Build through the draft and see if Quinn can get the job done this year. Bring in a veteran receiver to help the young players and don’t screw up the pick at #7. Oh, and pray that Berry falls to us at that pick. Go Browns!
In view of David Michael’s response, “Come on Dave, everybody needs a little love. Donovan will bring love to your Browns”. He also is the next to the best QB that the Eagles have ever had. The best was of course, Norm VanBrocklin, who helped them win the NFL title in 1960 and retired in 1961.
A 1st round pick for McNabb? The Browns will not give the 7th overall pick for McNabb. As an Eagles fan, We will be lucky to get a 2nd round pick from Cleveland. The only teams I could see offering a 1st round pick for Mcnabb are Arizona & Minny if Favre retires. They are closer to the bottom of the 1st round
