Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is already considering draft strategies for the upcoming NFL Draft. The Cowboys will hold the 27th pick in April, and Jones expects them to stay put. Many expect the Dallas to target offensive line with their first pick, but Jones only acknowledges that the team needs to add talent.
“More than ever, with where our team is, we’ve got to be really, really good with this draft,” said Jones at the Under Armour Senior Bowl. “The one thing we cannot do is stand pat. We have to be aggressive about getting more talent. We could get a lot of players from this draft and last year’s draft combined.”
Jones does not envision Dallas trading their first-round pick. He believes that the depth of this draft class is strong and the Cowboys could add quality depth at pick 27.
There is a possibility that Jones may target an offensive player for the second time since 1998. The only other offensive first-round selection in that time was superstar in the making, Felix Jones.
Two prospects that stand out on Dallas’ draft board are Idaho offensive guard Mike Iupati and defensive lineman Jared Odrick from Penn State. Iupati is currently ranked No. 18 on the NFL Mocks Big Board, while Jared Odrick ranks No. 25.
