Urban Meyer Believes He Will Coach Gators in 2010

by Florida

Reports surfaced yesterday that Florida head coach Urban Meyer would step down from coaching after his team faces off against Cincinnati in the Sugar Bowl. However, it appears that Meyer has had a change of heart.

In less than 24 hours, Meyer has decided that he will not step down; he will instead take a leave of absence.

Gators defensive line coach Dan McCarney told the Orlando Sentinel, “He was walking off the practice field and he knew he made a mistake. I don’t know if it’s one month, three months or six months, but he’s coming back.”

Meyer held a press conference today and in a very telling moment he hinted that he would return to Florida for the 2010 season.

He was asked, “Coach, you’ve talked a lot about having gut feelings about things. In your gut, do you think you’re going to be the coach of this football team come fall?”

Meyer did not hold back and responded with, “That’s uh… I probably knew that question was coming. I do… I do in my gut believe that will happen.”

So after all of this hoopla, it appears that the Florida coach has done a complete 180 on his decision. Meyer believes he will be back behind the clipboard in 2010.
