Jahvid Best Injured During Terrifying Fall
California Running Back Jahvid Best was carted off of the field after scoring a touchdown against Oregon State on Saturday night.
The one-time Heisman candidate and possible front-runner leaped into the air in an attempt to hurdle Oregon State Safety Cameron Collins midway
through the second quarter. Best landed on his back and was down on the field for several minutes before finally being carted off on a stretcher. Best lost his helmet and didn’t move any extremities.
California Head Coach Jeff Tedford was understandably scared.
“It’s very sobering when that happens,” Tedford said. “When it happened, it was unbelievably scary. He was out of it pretty good.”
As was Oregon State Head Coach Mike Riley.
“It’s always an eerie thing in a game when it’s so quiet and somebody gets hurt like that,” Riley said. “It’s just scary.”
It was later report that Best had movement in all of his extremities and was diagnosed with a concussion for the second time in two weeks.
Best, a junior, is ranked as Scouts INC’s 20th overall player and the #2 overall Running Back in the 2010 draft.
Oregon State went on to win the game 31-14.
