According to reports from the Associated Press, the New York Jets have reached a contractual agreement
with rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez.
The Jets so coveted the Orange County Kid from USC that they moved into the top five in the draft to insure Sanchez would be the man to help wash the stench of Favre off the field in East Rutherford.
ESPN’s John Clayton is reporting that the deal is for five years and has an estimated $28 million in guaranteed money.
It should be noted that Sanchez’s deal is considerably less than the guaranteed money given to the top pick in the draft, Matthew Stafford, and is the smallest contract handed out to a quarterback picked in the top five over the last few years.
Time will tell if Sanchez can live up to the billing as the next Joe Namath, at least now he has a paycheck to reflect the Baywatch lifestyle he showed in GQ.
