The thing about the Packers this year, especially with Thompson and McCarthy at the helm, is that they believe in "growing" their team from the best player available. That means that their board will decide their pick moreso than any sense of "need." They also seem more than willing to ignore what other people think, and to follow their own beliefs in what makes a good player. Thompson clearly likes football-smart guys with good attitudes, but it happens that a lot of this year's top players seem to fall under that description.
As a Packer fan, I'd like to see Raji, as I believe a good NG is vital to a 3-4, and he seems capable of becoming a Pro-Bowl caliber player eventually. I think many of the other current players (Kampmann, Hawk, Barnett, Woodson, Pickett, etc.) have great leadership skills, and will help hone the attitude on any young guy they bring in. However, I agree with Thompson's approach of "getting the best players" as well as trading down for additional picks, so we'll see what his board says this year.

Orakpo is the best player we might have a chance of getting, with Raji in a close second. We need defense right now more than anything else.

I think the pack should take Oranpo if he is still there at 9. I am hoping he is. He's got great size and strength and I believe will become a force on the dl
