One offensive tackle who’s kind of been under the radar thus far is Connecticut’s William Beatty (he doesn’t even have a wiki yet!). At 6-foot-6 and just over 300 pounds, the husky ex-Husky has room to grow. NFL.com’s Mike Maylock recently raved about his feet and projected him as a sure-fire second-round pick. While watching footage of him, I noticed his athleticism. The big man moves like an NBA power forward. He indeed has great feet along with outstanding balance and lateral movement, and I could even see him pulling and getting upfield well in the running game.
Beatty is definitely on the rise. Even though he was a three-year starter and standout at UCONN,he is relatively unknown as far as the national scene is concerned due to that football program’s anonymity. If he plays well at the Senior Bowl, I can even see him sneaking into the first round, a la Sam Baker. Even if he does go in the second, I can see him being this year’s Tony Ugoh. We’ll definitely be keeping an eye on Beatty.
MockStock: Late first- or early second-round pick.
