2009 NFL Mock Draft: January 20th
We now know that Pittsburgh & Arizona (go figure) are going to play for the Super Bowl. That changes a lot in our mock draft, although it’s still very early to tell which prospects scouts are loving and which ones they’re not. The Senior Bowl is going on this week and I’ve heard raved reviews about a couple of players.. The NFL combine is coming up soon as well, along with all the NFL offseason transitions.
For example: A year ago Ladanian Tomlinson was the consensus #1 running back in the NFL. Now he’s not even the consensus #1 running back on his own team. What are the Chargers going to do with him? What are the Cowboys going to decide about Terrell Owens?
All of that stuff could affect this mock draft.
Here’s some frequently asked questions about my mock draft:
1) This is the official NFL Draft order if Pittsburgh wins the Super Bowl.
2) I do these weekly but only here at NFLmocks.com so make sure you check back often for updates.
3) Make sure you leave comments below.
Without further adu, here’s the latest NFL Mock Draft:

QB Matthew Stafford*

DE Everette Brown

DE Aaron Maybin

WR Kenny Britt
OT Jason Smith
G Duke Robinson

Think Maclin will fall that far?
January 21st, 2009 at 9:36 amhell no top 15 pick
January 21st, 2009 at 8:12 pmYou think Curry will fall that far? This mock draft is one of the craziest I've seen.
January 21st, 2009 at 9:17 pmYou really have the Browns taking a tackle at #5 huh. Keep in mind they would be paying this guy big money to play on the right side with Joe Thomas, who is about to start his second Pro Bowl, on the left.
I'd rather see Curry, Jenkins, or Orapko…in that order wearing Orange and Brown. The back 7 is desperate for help. Then agan, two stud tackles wouldn't be bad either.
January 21st, 2009 at 10:25 pmYour #24 pick, Greg Hardy, hes not declared for the draft. I am hoping you might be referring to Peria Jerry (DT).
January 21st, 2009 at 10:25 pmDAVIS BEFORE JENKINS?
January 22nd, 2009 at 1:11 amthis draft is bogus…as an eagles fan there is no way in hell reid drafts a running back in the first round especially moreno he'll prolly be gone this draft is somewhat deep in running backs towards the later rounds n there will be studly rbs in rounds 3 and 4 such as shonn greene, plus moreno is too small for what the eagles need at running back they need size like a greene or hill n like i said they will be available in round 3-5…i truely believe they should take a te w/ the 21st pick i prefer pettigrew over gresham b/c of his blockin ability n gresham's 40 is bout a second faster, id settle for either, eagles need a nice size target for mcnabb especially in the redzone…both curtis n jackson are smaller receivers which dont fare too well in the redzone where size dominates…as for 28th pick u hit it on the head they will prolly draft a oline man….now this all might be meaningless considering the eagles love to trade first round picks away on game day(eagles havent had a first round draft pick past 2 years) haha soo pathetic
January 22nd, 2009 at 7:24 amNo Mark Sanchez in first round?
January 22nd, 2009 at 3:33 pmyou have too many CB's in the first round, you dont even have Raji coming out of the first.
January 22nd, 2009 at 5:37 pmdude be for real wheres b.j. raji and sanchez and jason smith wont go down that far did u just pick 6 down randomly?
January 22nd, 2009 at 5:38 pm3 teams in the top 10 need qbs and 2 more at 17 and 18 and if sanchez is still around by the vikings pick you bet they'll scoop him up i watched the sub par play of the qbs all yr no way they'd let him slip by. and i think cinci needs a ot more i'd like to see if they'd take mins. Bryant McKinnie and a 2nd round pick for there 1st because i don't think Sanchez will fall that far and if he doesn't then i'd like to see them send that pick to New England for cassel and if they don't them we have 2 1st rounders so we can take and ot and a center i'm not well educated on ot's but alex mack would be a good pick for center to take over for birk i think that's and if NE takes the 1st rounder for cassel then we can still take and ot or c later in the 1st round
January 22nd, 2009 at 5:43 pmEnter text right here!for birk i think that's a good idea….brain fart sorry forgot to add the good idea
January 22nd, 2009 at 5:46 pmwhere does sanchez fit in this mock draft i can see him goin 3rd to kansas
January 22nd, 2009 at 6:41 pmNo way aaron curry falls to 16….and phillysbigherm i agree with you 100 percent
January 23rd, 2009 at 2:05 amNice fit for Beanie and the Bucs… IFFFFFF he can stay healthy????????? Hes a workhorse BUT you always wonder if hes going to get up healthy or not.
January 23rd, 2009 at 11:34 amThere's no way the Packers take Alphonso Smith with the ninth pick. First of all, the pass rush was the biggest problem in '08 and if Everette Brown is available they will scoop him up. Second, the corners for the Packers are consistently tough, physical guys, unlike Smith. (Not to mention that the Packers have Tramon Williams who played well throughout the last year and Pat Lee who was drafted in the second round in '08.) Even Chris Wells or Aaron Curry (though it's unlikely he'll reach them) would make more sense in Ted Thompson's best player available draft style.
January 23rd, 2009 at 6:41 pmI have no faith in this mock draft considering they can't even get the records of the teams right.
January 23rd, 2009 at 8:28 pmPats 9-6??? The Jets 8-8????
Please God, don't have the Bears draft a WR at #18. PLEASE DRAFT DUKE ROBINSON. As a Bears fan, we need help for the offensive line NOW. Orton can't get the ball to anyone while on his back. F*@! the underclassman from Florida. Go with the Duke !!!
January 23rd, 2009 at 9:31 pmWould have to diagree with Moreno dropping that far in the draft do to the fact he made staford what he was… He is the 2nd best prospect coming out this year behind Crabtree
January 24th, 2009 at 12:14 amI can't see the Browns taking an OT when their defense is in need of linebackers… I think they'll trade down and pick up an extra pick in the later rounds.
January 24th, 2009 at 3:30 amThe chiefs dont need another damn lineman. They need a quater back. trading Trent green and not drafting brady quinn was when everything went wrong.THE CHIEFS NEED MARK SANCHEZ OF USC. If they dont do anything this draft their screwed. Brody Croyle sucks butt hole!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In my opininoin matt Stafford was better this year but Sanchez has more potenial in the NFL.
January 24th, 2009 at 5:14 amThat looks pretty good
January 24th, 2009 at 5:16 amThats terrible
January 24th, 2009 at 5:17 amGreat work with this mock Daniel!
January 24th, 2009 at 6:29 amDud Sanchez is wayyyyy earlier
January 24th, 2009 at 7:17 amjon wanke you are smoking rock if you think that dirty sanchez has "more potential" in the nfl than matt stafford. do some homework kid!
January 24th, 2009 at 10:00 amhope so.. GO PURPLE!!
January 24th, 2009 at 5:41 pmand maclin is WAY better the heyward-bey alls bey has is speed
January 24th, 2009 at 5:43 pmthe chiefs either need a de or a lb mark sanchez is not good enough in my mind to go three and the third spot is hard to trade out of. i think curry or orakpo would be the best pick with pioli as the new gm he'll want a 3-4 defense employed either would fit. maclin is a top 10 pick for sure this is a really poor mock draft. also if maclin went to florida and harvin went to mizzou everyone would say maclin was better. maclin is bigger just as fast if not faster and he is a better reciever u dont have to use him in gimmiks to get yards
January 26th, 2009 at 2:08 amIf New Orleans signs Vilma once free agency hits, they won't have to give up their first round pick.. And Vilma has said he's interested in doing this, so let's say Vilma is with the Saints next year, I doubt New Orleans will draft James Laurinaitis, and will go for either Malcom Jenkins or Vontae Davis. And if both the corners aren't there, Laurinaitis will be the best option to replace Shanle
January 26th, 2009 at 5:27 ami forgot to say sanchez is inflated because his defense gave him short fields and in most games the rbs did the work and he took the glory look at the oregon state game the run was stuffed and he couldnt win them the game he has the easiest job out there his job is play all right get drafted way to high and be a career nfl backup and make millions
January 27th, 2009 at 12:03 amHAHAHAHAHAH this is the worst mock draft ive ever seen, and will probably be the worst productive draft as far as these players go,
January 27th, 2009 at 12:07 amBogus draft. The Lions will take the sure thing a left tackle that can play for years, and they will not take a projected second round CB in the first. Curry is not going to make it past the first 5 picks.
February 2nd, 2009 at 1:53 pmDUMBEST mock draft I've seen!! I hope you are not a "so-called expert"!! All across the board bad, I'm actually hoping this was a JOKE!!
February 3rd, 2009 at 2:53 amSo help me God, after 50 years of suffering along with the Lions, if they pass on the top OTs and take Stafford I am BURNING all my t-shirts and jerseys!
February 9th, 2009 at 12:26 amSo help me god help the 49ers back to the super bowl
March 12th, 2009 at 6:53 pmLook, plain and simple the Bucs need to draft a Quarterback either in the first or third round. A lot of the experts have the bucs taking a RB in the first round, when honestly they dont have a signal caller to lead them into not just this season but into the future as well. Josh Freeman is the only first round option that they have. Either him or Pat White would be a great fit here in Tampa for years to come!!!! LETS GO TAMPA
March 16th, 2009 at 8:28 pmDid you take time to make sure what each team needs. What there major needs are. I don’t think so with those picks.
