Lions Fans, I’m Asking You

This is for all the Detroit Lions fans still out there today. At 0-8 Detroit controls their own destiny this season, because if they lose every game the rest of the way then they will get the #1 pick in April’s NFL Draft.

So now it’s your turn Detroit. Tell us who you want your Lions to pick with their top 5 pick in the 2009 NFL Draft. I’ve read that a lot of people aren’t happy with my choice of Ray Mauluaga to the Lions, so tell me who Detroit should take.

Should it be Oher or Andre Smith if they are available? Another receiver like Michael Crabtree (let’s hope they don’t go receiver again)? And for some reason the Lions just brought in Dante Culpepper to QB instead of letting Drew Stanton and Dan Orlovsky get experience, so maybe a QB pick.

You tell me. Post comments below and I will post the best responses right here so that everyone can read them.

NOTE: For those wondering this is different than our NFL Fan Mock Draft. We will bring that back soon, but for now I want to give fans the entire player universe to pick from and not just a few positions.

Michael Oher, or the best LT available. A true franchise LT hopefully Anthing on defense otherwise dt/mlb/cb/de. Not a QB!!

The holes are numerous and the cap space is questionable. The Team has been so throughly mismanaged the last eight years or so and this has lead to several low quality players getting the pay scale of top ten talent in the league. Look at Cory Redding! He’s *wretched* and they don’t even cut him a check, they just drive a dump truck full of money and empty it out on his drive way every other week.

The Lions have 2 first round picks, our own possibly first overall *sigh* and the Cowboys first round pick just keeps moving up closer to the top 10 every week as the season progresses. I don’t like to speculate who to get because you can never tell who’s going to look good in the combine and how other teams are going to gobble up players.

This year, taking Cherilus was a bad choice. Linemen were in high demand last year, and instead of getting one of the best players available, we drafted the 4th best tackle in the bunch and he doesn’t look that good up to this point.

Our immediate needs are linebackers, tackles, cornerbacks, safeties, running backs and we could probably use a franchise quarterback. Uh… So we need one of everything except wide receivers, a punter and a kicker.

Matthew Stafford is the best bet with this pick.. He is a pro style quarterback with a strong arm.. i have study many film on this quarterback and he has all the intangibles to be a successful quarterback.. yes we need a line to protect him but with that top pick you go with your future QB and then with your second 1st round pick you get a top notch linemen to protect him and or a defensive end or linebacker.. Sam Bradford is a great college QB but he plays in a system and will take a lot of work to develop him into a great QB… I think Stafford is the way to go to have him become the next Matt Ryan and or Eli Manning.. Where those teams gambled on a future QB early even though at the time they had many holes to fill and it works out in the long run.. Because you need a Quarterback to lead your team when the going gets tough and to run and lead your team for many many years.. Then after drafting Stafford they should try to draft George Selvie the DE out of USF who has the intangibles to be a greta pass rusher to help a weak Detroit defense , Malcolm Jenkins from Ohio State, or a solid lineman with that second 1st round pick.. or they can even draft Rey Maluagua or Brian Cushing from USC to give support to Ernie Sims and that weak linebacking corps.

Eugene Munroe at LT would be my first choice. The Lions need to start from the ground up. Munroe has a great attitude, is extremly talented, and is a safer bet than Andre Smith with his weight problems. Smith can't be counted on to give 100% and DE's can run around him. Doesn't have good feet and is not quick.
QB is to much of a risk here seeing as the top 2 only have 3 years exp. Ryan and Flacco had 5 years exp. Big difference. Next year there will be a bumper crop of QB's with more talent and exp.

Our Jason Smith. I know I'm flip flopping. Today I'm high on J. Smith…lol
