Prospect Rising: WR Kenny McKinley

Posted by: nflmocks

I watched Kenny McKinley and South Carolina beat North Carolina State on the first night of college football’s very young season and saw a bright future for Gamecocks wide receiver.

It’s not the first time I’ve seen him play, but it’s the first time I’ve ever thought he had a NFL future as I watched him play.

The box score lies about his impact on the game. He had six catches for 35 yards and did it during the worst played game by quarterbacks I’ve ever watched. If you are a young kid trying to learn how to play the quarterback position I hope you turned off your televisions.

McKinley ran crisp routes and when there was a rare completion it was usually to him. As far as his NFL stock goes he runs a 4.49 40 yard dash but only weighs 187 pounds.

South Carolina’s stale passing attack will hurt his stock as the season goes along. He won’t put up big numbers but I’m not sure any wide receiver can in this Steve Spurrier offense.

I expect him to go between rounds three and five unless he does something impressive before then. If I were a team in need of a possession receiver I’d take him in a heartbeat. I really think he can make it in the league.
