Daniel's 2009 NFL Mock Draft 3.0
Here’s my next guess at the 2009 NFL Draft, where it seems like you could post any player in any spot right this second.
First here’s some frequently asked questions about my mock draft:
1) I randomize the order but I do it differently than most mock draft experts. Up until the season starts I separate the 12 playoff teams (in my opinion) from the 20 non playoff teams. First I draw the playoff teams and then I draw from the non playoff teams. This is as fair as I think a randomized order can be.
2) I do these weekly but only here at NFLmocks.com so make sure you check back often for updates.
3) Explanations will come later, right now I have to agree that some of these picks are questionable but with almost the entire 2008 PRESEASON to play out this is more or less just for fun!

August 12th, 2008 at 1:41 pmNice work Dan!
August 12th, 2008 at 1:44 pmI am surprised with you being a Florida fan you have Tebow dropping to 14.
August 12th, 2008 at 1:44 pmWhy would the Chargers draft Kelly? They have Jackson, Chambers, and just draft Buster Davis in the first 2 years ago. Look OT or G….Maybe a Loadholt or Duke Robinson if they are available.
August 12th, 2008 at 2:43 pmI have to be honest about Tebow…. I don’t know how scouts are going to rate him yet so it’s tough to decide where to put him.
August 12th, 2008 at 3:44 pmI had San Diego drafting Duke Robinson in one of my earlier mocks but I think the first round might be too high for a guard. San Diego would be in a tough spot drafting #23 although Phil Loadholt would be a good choice. I have them picking Kelly because I like the Clemson receivers athleticism a lot and I think he could easily move into the round one with a big year. Let’s be honest here Tim, Phillip Rivers throws to Antonio Gates a lot more than any receiver the Chargers have. I’m not a big Vincent Jackson fan, but I did like that they traded for Chris Chambers last year. I don’t think drafting a WR would be the end of the world, but I see your point. Great explanation. Thank you for your feedback!
August 12th, 2008 at 3:49 pmI know it is very early, but I do not see the Eagles picking a Safety in round 1. The Eagles took Quintin Demps in the 4th round this past draft, and they seem to really like him a lot. He made some really nice plays in the first preseason game, and could possibly start at FS next season. They have Quintin Mikell starting at SS, and he is signed for another 3 years. Andy Reid also has a philosophy that you can find a good safety in later rounds.
Getting Oher would be a dream scenario. Tra Thomas and Jon Runyan are both likely gone after this year, and OT is a huge need in next years draft. Especially with Winston Justice still struggling.
August 12th, 2008 at 3:52 pmIan I thought the Eagles fans out there might like the Oher pick. The Mays pick was more of a “best available pick”. I really don’t see him sliding that far and Philadelphia would get great value by selecting him that late in round one.

August 12th, 2008 at 11:40 pmI know that Rey Mauluaga is good, but I don’t know if there’s enough of him to go around to both Cleveland and San Francisco at 17 & 18. Might want to rethink that one.
August 13th, 2008 at 8:46 amI fixed it. Thanks for pointing it out.
August 13th, 2008 at 8:55 amThree Ohio State players going in the top 10!
August 13th, 2008 at 9:42 amOne major flaw: as amazing an athlete as Crabtree is, he can’t be drafted in ‘09, b/c he’s only a sophomore this season. I do see him as the #1 pick in 2010, though; the guy’s a beast.
August 13th, 2008 at 3:57 pmFirst thank you for your comment Adam but you are wrong. Crabtree was redshirted as a Freshman making this season his third year of eligibility, which is all the NFL requires a player to complete before they become eligible to enter the NFL Draft. So therefore Crabtree’s Sophomore season would be his third collegiate season.
August 13th, 2008 at 4:01 pmyou are out of your mind if you think the panthers will be bad enough to get the no.5 pick, seriously, they haven’t picked that low in the first round since 2001, enjoy the pick philly, but it won’t be that low
August 14th, 2008 at 8:16 amNjsportsguy if you had read the top of the post then I clearly pointed out that the order was randomly drawn out of a hat. Thank you for your comment!
August 14th, 2008 at 9:01 amThank you for not going QB to the Vikings like everyone else! I’ll definitely take Beckum, he can at least catch and has some good speed.
August 14th, 2008 at 10:06 amWhat? The Jaguars aren’t drafting a Gator in the first round? Craziness!
Also, if we draft another wide receiver in the first around I would screeeeeam.
August 14th, 2008 at 12:09 pmIt’s not that I don’t like Mays, but Andy Reid prefers to draft lineman in round 1. Look at past draft top picks for the Eagles. Mike Patterson, Shawn Andrews, Jerome McDougle, Brodrick Bunkley, and Trevor Laws(round 2 but first selection).
The highest safety they ever took was Michael Lewis in the 2nd round. Other than him it has been late round or undrafted guys. Sean Considine round 4, Quintin Demps round 4, JR Reed 4th round, Quintin Mikell undrafted, and Clinton Hart undrafted.
It just seems to be a philosophy thing with the Eagles. They basically refuse to go safety in round 1, because they think they can find one in the later rounds.
The kid Demps has looked great so far. He’s made big plays in both pre season games so far. I think they may have found a gem in the 4th round.
August 15th, 2008 at 5:20 pmI LOVE THAT YOU HAVE MIAMI PICKING 13TH. THAT MEANS THEY FINISHED AROUND 8-8. I DO DISAGREE WITH WHO THEY PICK, THOUGH! I DONT THINK P. HARVINS IS THE BIG RECIEVER THEY NEED, SO I’M PREDICTING VONTAE DAVIS CB FROM ILLINOIS IN THIS SPOT! I THINK THEY CAN GET GOOD VALUE WITH THE PICK FROM WASHINGTON! ALL IN ALL, LOOKS GOOD THOUGH!
October 7th, 2008 at 11:14 amWell the lions will be picking first unless they win two games which I do not see( I'm a Lions Fan).
December 3rd, 2008 at 1:30 amI first do not think they need a RB cause they drafted #34Smith and they do not need a Qb cause they don't have a base to build around, with the three picks in the first 2 rounds they need to go with Smith from Bama and then De Selvie with Dallas pick and then hopefully Cushings or Spikes falls to 33 pick or Saftey Mayes from USC.
