College Football Power Rankings: July 1

The college football season is just 58 days away. It’s time for the first batch of NFLmocks power rankings for college football. At the top things are pretty complicated, because in my opinion five teams could argue that they should be #1 and the top eight seem to just be better than everybody else. My last power rankings had Indianapolis at #1 and New England at #2. In some places around the world I’m sure it is illegal to put a team that posted the second undefeated season in NFL history and a team that went a combined 18-1 at #2 in the first power rankings for next season.

1. Travis Beckum (Wisconsin)
Round Projection: Middle 1st-Early 2nd

He’s small for a tight end (just 6-4, 224 pounds but he’s also fast for a tight end. His 40 (4.55) is excellent, and if he can add some size then he can be a first round pick.

1. Chris Wells (Ohio State)*

Round Projection: Early-Middle 1st

Wells has been great at Ohio State and should have another fantastic season for the Buckeyes. Expect him to go in round one unless he just completely falls off the map.

QB Rankings: December 29th

2009 NFL Draft Position Rankings:

1. Matthew Stafford (Georgia)*

Round Projection: Early 1st

He appears to be the top QB prospect in this draft. He has a strong arm and usually makes good decisions with the football. Stafford is the most NFL ready quarterback I’ve seen all year.

Browns: Anderson or Quinn?

Brady Quinn wants to be the starting quarterback for the Cleveland Browns. When Cleveland drafted Brady Quinn 22nd overall in the 2006 NFL Draft the Browns wanted Quinn to be their starting quarterback of the future.

Everyone agrees that the future for Cleveland is now.

Derek Anderson has ruined Quinn’s starting hopes, and it appears it will be 2009 before the former Notre Dame great has a chance to start. Phil Savage says he won’t decide between the two until the 2009 season, because Anderson’s performance in 2008 earned him the right to start.
