2008 Mock NFL Draft 2.0

by NFL Draft
Team 1st Round

Miami Logo

1. Miami Dolphins – DT Glenn Dorsey, LSU

  • Another Mock and nothing has changed as far as my selection for the Dolphins is concerned. I expect them to trade down so we will just have to wait and see…
St. Louis Rams Draft Logo 2. St. Louis Rams – DE Chris Long, Virgina

  • The Rams will look to continue to improve their defense. They were hit hard last season with injuries on the offensive side of the football so that unit isn’t as bad as some may think.
Atlanta Falcons Draft Logo 3. Atlanta Falcons – QB Matt Ryan, Boston College

  • The Falcons will be left with some interesting options. They could go with McFadden here, but they need to acquire that franchise QB again after losing Vick and Schaub.

Oakland Raiders Draft Logo

4. Oakland Raiders – RB Darren McFadden, Arkansas

  • If I hear from any Raiders fan that tells me this pick is crazy, than that fan might want to take a good look in the mirror. This is a great pick for the Raiders, and one that Al Davis will love. I think JaMarcus Russell might like the pick, too.

Kansas City Chiefs Draft Logo

5. Kansas City Chiefs – OT Jake Long, Michigan

  • The Chiefs have their dream come true here. If Long falls to them then this will be the best possible scenario for the Chiefs. That way they won’t have to trade down or take a flier on a QB or McFadden.
NY Jets Draft Logo 6. New York Jets – DE/OLB Vernon Gholston, Ohio State

  • The Jets would love to get Chris Long, but I don’t think he will get pass the first three/four picks. If the Jets want Long they will have to move up. I think Gholston is almost just as good of a pick for the Jets.
New England Patriots Draft Logo 7. New England Patriots (From 49ers) – FS Kenny Phillips, Miami

  • Laurinaitis and Jenkins staying at Ohio State made this a harder pick for the Patriots. I figured the Patriots would have the luxury of taking either player. Now they will have to decide between reaching for a corner/linebacker or taking the best player on the board. The Patriots usually pick the best player.

Ravens Logo

8. Baltimore Ravens – QB Andre’ Woodson, Kentucky

  • The Ravens need a QB and will most likely have the option of getting to pick between two of the three first round QBs. John Harbaugh will get to decide who he wants as his QB of the future.

Cincinnati Bengals Draft Logo

9. Cincinnati Bengals – LB Keith Rivers, USC

  • The Bengals barely had enough LBs to play a few games last season. Unfortunately for them they will not have the opportunity to look at James Laurinaitis, but Rivers will be a productive player that should be able to start his first game.
New Orleans Saints Draft Logo 10. New Orleans Saints – CB Mike Jenkins, South Florida

  • Jenkins should be thanking Malcom Jenkins from Ohio State for staying in school. Now he will most likely be the first corner taken.
Buffalo Bills Draft Logo

11. Buffalo Bills – WR Malcolm Kelly, Oklahoma

  • The Bills would love to get a big WR to go along with their emerging offense, and Kelly will give them just that.

Denver Broncos Draft Logo

12. Denver Broncos – DT Sedrick Ellis, USC

  • After trying guys like Sam Adams and Courtney Brown, the Broncos get the second best DT in the draft. This is a great pick for the Broncos — some would say a steal.
Carolina Panthers Draft Logo 13. Carolina Panthers – OT Ryan Clady, Boise St.

  • The Panthers managed to get all of their QBs injured at some point in the season, and need help on the offensive line. I love Clady and think that he might actually have the most potential at his position in this draft.

Chicago Bears Draft Logo

14. Chicago Bears – QB Brian Brohm, Louisville

  • Unless the Bears trade up they will most likely have to settle for the best QB that falls to them. Brohm is that guy for now.

Detroit Lions Draft Logo

15. Detroit Lions – OT Sam Baker, USC

  • The Lions could not protect Kitna and the offense struggled because of it. I think they could also take a corner here.
Arizona Cardinals Draft Logo 16. Arizona Cardinals – RB Jonathan Stewart, Oregon

  • It looks like the Colts might have gotten rid of Edge just at the right time. I think that if the Cardinals bring in Stewart they could have a dynamic backfield, allowing both players to take reps. They could also look at DE, CB/S, or consider a different RB.

Minnesota Vikings Draft Logo

17. Minnesota Vikings – DE Derrick Harvey, Florida

  • The Vikings would love to have one of the three QBs fall to them, but if that doesn’t happen they really have the option to take the best player on the board. I think that Harvey would be great to add to their DL, and probably would make it the best in the NFL.
Houston Texans Draft Logo 18. Houston Texans – RB Rashard Mendenhall, Illinois

  • The Ahman Green experiment didn’t work out as well as the Texans thought it might. Mendenhall gives them a young back to go along with Matt Schuab, Andre Johnson, and Owen Daniels. Thus giving them a young exciting offense.
Eagles Logo 19. Philadelphia Eagles – OT Jeff Otah, Pittsburgh

  • McNabb got hurt again because the offensive line broke down. Winston Justice is not the answer at OT and Runyan could retire.
Tampa Bay Bucanneers Draft Logo 20. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – WR DeSean Jackson, Oregon

  • DeSean Jackson gives Gruden a playmaker he can use in multiple ways. Galloway had a great season, but at some point he is going to slow down.
Washington Redskins Draft Logo

21. Washington Redskins – WR Limas Sweed, Texas

  • The ‘Skins need another WR to help bring along QB Jason Campbell. Sweed is the big WR target they are missing. They could also look at Manningham, Hardy, and Doucet.
Dallas Cowboys Draft Logo 22. Dallas Cowboys (From Browns) – CB Aqib Talib, Kansas

  • This is my fourth mock draft now, and I still have the Cowboys going with Talib. Add him to T-New and you will have the best state of Kansas CBs in NFL history (ok, who really cares about that)
Pittsburgh Steelers Draft Logo 23. Pittsburgh Steelers – CB/S Reggie Smith, Oklahoma

  • Smith might be my favorite defensive back in the draft because he can play multiple positions, which is something that Pittsburgh loves to have.
Tennesse Titans Draft Logo 24. Tennessee Titans – WR Mario Manningham, Michigan

  • If the Titans go with anything, but a WR I will be shocked. Nuff said…

Seattle Seahawks Draft Logo

25. Seattle Seahawks – RB Felix Jones, Arkansas

  • Felix Jones could help resurrect Shaun Alexanders’ career (if that is possible). Either way they will get a versatile playmaker that could help them get back to the Super Bowl.
New York Giants Draft Logo 26. New York Giants – LB Dan Conner, Penn State

  • The Giants could also address their secondary, but I don’t think they could pass on an upstate LB like Conner.
Jacksonville Jaguars Draft Logo 27. Jacksonville Jaguars – DE Calais Campbell, Miami

  • Jacksonville will have Marcus Stroud back healthy next season and adding Campbell to him and Henderson could be very, very scary.
San Diego Chargers Draft Logo 28. San Diego Chargers – OLB Ali Highsmith, LSU

  • The Chargers missed Donnie Edwards this season. Their secondary has really became one of their stronger parts of their defense, so no need to look there. They could also look at DT.
Dallas Cowboys Draft Logo 29. Dallas Cowboys – WR James Hardy, Indiana

  • Hardy might be one of my sleeper picks. I love his size (6’5 1/2″) and his potential. I think that the Cowboys will also take a look at the other WRs left in the draft or a RB (especially if Felix Jones drops to them).
San Francisco 49ers Draft Logo 30. San Francisco 49ers (From Colts) - DT Kentwan Balmer, UNC

  • The 49ers could do a number of different things, but I think improving your DL is always a good start.

Green Bay Packers Draft Logo

31. Green Bay Packers – CB Leodis McKelvin, Troy State

  • Al Harris and Charles Woodson are getting up there in age, and the Packers will need to start grooming their replacements. McKelvin’s stock is rising and this could be a great pick for the Pack.

I believe the Giants are picking 31 or 32, not Dallas.

  3. NFL Mocks says:

    Billy,

I had this Mock done before the playoff games. So I figured I would post it. I am going to update this weekend and switch the picks.

The Giants will be at the 31st spot I believe and everyone else will move up a spot. Not sure where you saw Dallas at 31 or 32.

  4. Frank Misaege says:

I’d have no problem drafting a stud DL with Niners first pick…a lot depends of whether they re-sign Isaac Sopoaga. Nolan wants him back, “Soap” as he’s called wants to come back. Nolan envisions him playing at DE, vice NT. He wants a huge front three…with Sopoaga and NT Franklin, that’s 2/3 of it. The need is for a big stud to play the other DE. Marques Douglas is an UFA and could well sign elsewhere, plus he’s a big undersized for what Nolan wants to do. If Balmer could play DE, we’re in business. Other possibility is Mike Martz will lobby hard for an offensive guy…probably a WR, like Doucet (to play slot receiver) or Bowman (more of a big play guy).

  5. Todd Mcshay says:

I dont see why theywould take Glenn Dorsey in a 3-4 defense,

  6. What about Gosder Cherilus and Dejuan Tribble
